Addy's breaking in her parents...

Most of you have heard about our little venture to the ER in the middle of the night with our little Addy, but we thought we would share some of the facts and the pictures. First off, thank you all for your prayers and support for us and our little girl during this pretty traumatic time! We definitely could not have made it without them and especially the power of our precious Heavenly Father. I must say that His presence was so very real to both of us, especially in the ER as our little girl was poked and proded. On Monday, December 5th, after a long day of Addy being very lathargic and not herself and feeling very warm, we decided to take her temperature. It was 101.4 in the arm pit which is 1 degree cooler than the old rectal check(which after having that done more than a dozen times, Addy's a rectal temp pro)...and after checking in with nurse Sherrill, we headed to the ER. It was almost mid-night when we got there, so we were both tired and freaking out, calmly. They had to do several tests, draw blood, spinal tap (no fun to watch), cathetar twice (the first time happened to be right after she peed...ooops), and of course the IV you see in the pictures. They couldn't find the vein in the arm so they had to go for the hand (also not fun to watch). They also noticed that her right breast (those things will always give us trouble) was swollen and red...ah-ha, the source of the problem. Turns out it was Mastitis, which isn't too common for infants. It was a soft tissue infection that was treated with some heavy IV antibiotics and 10 days of oral meds. As you can see from the pictures, it was quite the journey for our little girl, but she is definitley a trooper. We are learning much these days, and during this time we learned worrying ways of a parent!!! And again, God's amazing grace, "today's grace" as we call it, was just what we needed.
